Three other foreign students (fromVietnam, Nepal, Thailand) and I (India) were provided an opportunity to participate as a volunteer in an illustration event called “Kankaku no Sentaku” (感覚の洗濯)with the help of a teacher. We went there as a representative of the Global Network Plus. Kankaku no Sentaku in Japanese, means a sense of washing. It was held at Iwaki Arts and Culture Exchange Center Ariose. 15 min walk from Iwaki station. It is a workshop organized by Japanese artist Mr. Nishio Yoshimura. About 2000 piece of clothes were collected from Iwaki city and displayed on the terrace of Ariose. When I saw the finished display, I fell nostalgic and reminded me of the memories during my school days, where we all gather for washing and hang our clothes on the dormitory terrace. It is still common for many developing countries to wash clothes using the hand, providing a sense of washing. And lastly, we also got a chance to wash clothes like in early Japan. I have already seen in movies and animes and wanted to try at least once. This time I also got the opportunity, and surprisingly, it was easy to wash with washboard. Overall it was a fun event.

私(インド)とGlobal Network Plusのメンバー3人（ベトナム、ネパール、タイ）は先生と共に、「感覚の洗濯」と呼ばれるイラストレーションイベントにボランティアとして参加しました。 そのイベントは、いわき駅から徒歩で15分の所に在る《いわき芸術文化交流センターアリオス》で開催されました。 これは日本のアーティスト、西尾美也さんによるワークショップです。 いわき市内から集められた約2000点の洗濯物を、私たちはアリオスのテラスに展示するお手伝いをしました。 完成した展示を見たとき、私は学生の頃、寮のテラスに衣服を掛けていた風景を思い出し、懐かしくなりました。 多くの発展途上国では、手を使って衣服を洗うことが依然として一般的だからです。 そして最後に、私達は日本の昔のように洗濯板を使って服を洗う機会も得ました。以前、映画やアニメで見たことがありましたが、少なくとも一度は試してみたかった事です。 実際にそれをやってみると、驚くべきことに簡単でした。 とても楽しいイベントでした。
