festival located in the coastline of Iwaki, Onahama

DATE 2018-11-18

The past 10 of October we went to a festival located in the coastline of Iwaki, Onahama. The motives of this fair concur with an international aquarium summit taking place in the same place.
Along with some partners of Global Network + and some professors arrived at the fair iin front of the new Aeon Mall and found some food stalls and Craftsman’s stalls that came from all around Iwaki. The theme for this fair was the story of Urashima Tarō, which tells the story of a young fisherman that saves a turtle from harming people and is took as a reward to the Dragon God Palace in the deeps of the sea. In this opportunity the story had a small twist due to the objective of the fair that was to spreed awareness about the sea life creatures and the everyday increasing contamination of our oceans. Because of this, we could observe different expositions and presentations around this theme.
In Onahama one could find fishing ports, one of the most important fish markets of Iwaki and one the most recognized Aquarium of the north of Japan. Because of that, the engagement of the people with the reduction of contamination in the oceans is a really important topic due to the effect it may have in economics and social aspects of their life.
We had the opportunity to participate and win in a contest of one of the biggest fishing companies in Onahama and thanks to our win, we could have a great lunch consisting of various seafood dishes and typical dishes of Iwaki like Swordfish Croquettes.
Peru is a country with an incredible variaty of sea life and is good to remember their importance as a way of economic growth thus improving the development of it’s people. Without a doubt it was a really rich experience to keep in mind when the return to Peru has to come.
