Hundred Flowers in The Harbor

DATE 2018-8-12

August 4 Saturday,
Today the 65 years of Hanabi Taika (Fireworks show) was celebrated in The Port of Onahama at around 30 minutes from Iwaki Station by bus. That day, many of the streets were closed because of the event, so we, members of Global Network Plus had to mobilize by train and bus. It took us about an hour to arrive to the meeting point in front of the Fukushima Aquarium, which we have already present it earlier .
Once we arrived, we could see many people who came from around Iwaki to appreciate the fireworks. These visitors hanged out from early afternoon to spend time with their families doing picnic and enjoying the weather. The access to the street was free, but the payings zones were divided in four and in each one of them one could find food stalls and ice cqream vendors.
The show which had the theme “100 Flowers Blooming in the Harbor” started at 7.00pm with a regressive count and up to 9.00pm, launching around 12,000 fireworks. People could appreciate Japanese music that was played with the fireworks and so and on a few Western songs. My favourite piece was the one that was played along with music of the film The Greatest Showman.
The most interesting thing is the compromise of the local companies to make the show possible through donations as a way to give back to the community.
Without a doubt it was a one in a lifetime experience that I hope enjoy it once again.
